Prenatal Care (Global Midwifery Care Package)

  • Initial Prenatal visit – Towards the end of your first trimester (10-12 weeks), we usually have your first prenatal visit with the Back To Basics Midwifery team. We have full lab services and are able to draw blood, collect urine and provide all necessary and desired prenatal labs and order ultrasounds at your location of choosing.
  • Prenatal visits – We offer prenatal care visits in person and virtually, every 4-5 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2-3 weeks until 36 weeks, a home visit in your home at 36 or 37 weeks, then weekly visits from 36 weeks until your birth. These visits are typically 45-60 min long
  • 24/7 availability – You have access to your midwife when you need it.  I ask that non-urgent calls happen before 7pm.

Labor and Birth (Global Midwifery Care Package)

  • Continuous labor support – Once active labor is established, I will come to your home or meet you at the birth center and provide continuous labor support. I encourage the presence of doulas and love having them be part of the birth team if you choose.  An assistant midwife will join us once birth appears to be imminent.
  • Water birth – The benefits of deep water immersion in labor are immense and the option is given both at home with a portable rental tub or at the birth center with built-in free-standing tubs.
  • Care immediate postpartum – We will be with you typically 2-4 hours after the birth. We stay until mom and baby are stable, breastfeeding has been established, you have emptied your bladder, had a meal, room is tidied, birth tub emptied, and laundry is started.
  • Newborn exam and assessment – Your baby will have a head to toe assessment, and, if you have chosen, will be given the Vitamin K injection or oral dose and erythromycin eye prophylaxis.
  • VBAC – Having a home birth after a previous surgical birth is safe. We offer home or birth center birth for women/people choosing a vaginal birth after a cesarean birth. Some special circumstances may apply to your individual history.

Breech Birth Options, Twins Birth

You have options if your baby is breech! Depending on your unique situation, you may not have to have a cesarean birth just because your baby is breech, or you are having twins. If certain criteria are met, you may be able to birth your baby vaginally with me as your midwife. I have completed Breech Without Borders training, and have some experience with both breech birth and twins birth.  I believe that breech and twins birth skills should be kept alive, as they are quite limited in many hospitals, and I actively seek out trainings from experts in these fields.

As well as the option to deliver vaginally, you may be able to turn your breech baby to a head-down position using Spinning Babies® techniques, which I am trained in as a Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner.

Postpartum (Global Midwifery Care Package)

  • Postpartum Visits – You and your baby will be seen in home 1-2 days after you have given birth, followed by 1-2 more home visits within the first 2 weeks, with 1-2 office visits between 2-6 weeks postpartum
  • Routine Newborn Screening – I offer all 3 recommended newborn screenings, Newborn Metabolic Screen (blood spot test), Critical Congenital Heart Screen (CCHD, done with pulse oximeter) and Hearing Screen.  All of these are done at the initial postpartum visit.
  • Breastfeeding support – I offer basic breastfeeding support and refer out to local lactation consultants as needed.

"I would highly recommend Kate and her team to any expecting parents! They are so kind, thoughtful, and helpful! My husband and I felt very safe and confident in their care. I'll forever be grateful for them!"
